Truss, since her shameful exit from UK politics, has made the occasional newsworthy comment, but nothing that quite openly exposes the nature of her own politics as much as her public endorsements of Trump. Truss has stated that Trump’s presidency “can’t come soon enough”, posing with a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat and the American flag in the background of the photo. As much as this feels as though it should be satire, this seems in keeping with Truss’ record of calling for our own, UK equivalent of the president elect.

This post has, of course, not gone down perhaps as smoothly as Truss hoped. Ridicule seems to be an understatement for the reactions on X (where Truss posted the original photo). The irony of this is that Truss’ lawyers have sent the PM a cease and desist letter, asking him to stop saying that she crashed the economy. I wonder if Truss’ team will be sending cease and desist letters via X messages in the near future.

In any case, Truss’ post has gone viral and, for a politician with a record more decorated than most for policing her image, this will not have impressed the ex-MP. But is her support of Trump really a surprise? Perhaps they have bonded over their shared claims of being targets of a media witch hunt. If this is true and I find myself in possession of a cease and desist letter, I will update accordingly. However, the real question remains: what is Truss hoping for? After Musk’s public fallout with Farage, is Truss gunning to be the new mouthpiece of America in the UK? This would be difficult, having lost her seat in the last election and the respect of her colleagues after her disastrous mini-budget.

Whether Truss’ support is picked up by Trump and his cronies or not, X has definitely had a field day with the information. It remains to be seen if Truss will break into US politics or even come back to UK parliament. For now, at least, it doesn’t seem unlikely that Truss is only trying to remind people that she is still here. Unfortunately for Truss, that seems to have worked slightly too well.
